Topic (incl. Blog) of the Week/Fortnight/Month Nomination v1.636
Developer Last Online: Oct 2011
On my board (USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-D), we get many comments daily or weekly on many different topics and there are so many topics in the community that to be honest, we had a tough time remembering the topic being reviewed to offer a timely comment or response. Obviously, we needed a weekly/monthly topic nomination system with which we could get our community to commit to one topic as a group and then comment on it during the course of the week/month.
Cruising vB.org at warp speed, I failed to find a nomination system readily available. Hence, I quickly wrote this mod (on my way to the bridge). Acknowledgement: This release would not have been quickly possible without the existence of most hacks released at vB.org, especially the "Thank You" hack by Abe1, which provided this mod basis structure. Our thanks and all the merit goes to Abe1. A nice set of button and awards images have also been kindly provided by PrinceEdward to whom we also extend our thanks. Many constructive feedbacks have been given by those members at the vB.org community who downloaded the first releases of this Mod, the implementation of which has led to an improved version of the Mod. We extend our thanks to those members. What this mod does It adds a "Topic Of The Week/Month" nomination system to your community. What is Topic Of The Week/Month? Topic of the Week/Month is a contest that select posts on which your community can commit to as a group and then comment/discuss on them during the course of the selected week/month. Any listed topic (post, thread) is eligible for the Topic of the Week/Month selection. What determines a Topic Of The Week/Month? Topic Of The Week/Month is based on a simple nomination system. Throughout the selected forums, members with adequate permissions can nominate their favorite topic by clicking on the award nomination button below the post. The five topics with the most votes during the course of the week/month are automatically displayed on a nomination thread including a poll feature. At the end of the week/month, the first three topics with the most votes are the award winners of the contest. Features:

True, several issues have not been fixed, but some has. Even if some issues are not fixed, posting here allows users to be aware of the bugs. How do you know I'm not working on a revised, debugged version???
Anyways, if you think it's buggy, you can help fix it yourself (you are a coder, aren't you)? Or you can just uninstall this mod and stop trolling this thread.... |

lol The only reason I keep coming back to this thread is because I'm waiting for this mod to get fixed or NEWS that it will be fixed. I'm not a php coder. I only coded a simple html mod and got the coder status. I don't have time to learn something like this or else I would.
I haven't seen news from you stating you were updating this mod so how are any of us suppose to know you are working on one? This mod just plain stopped working on my site sadly. It would be nice to see a version that would actually work like it's suppose to. |

If you're curious as to when the upgrade will be done.... it's done when it's done. I like many other coders will not give a definite date 'cause users will keep pestering for its release. It's actually near done, but now I'm debating if it's worth releasing given all the negative comments & vibes posted in this thread.... |

If I knew how to code it I would, but as I said, I don't have enough time to learn something new! As I'm sure you don't have enough time to learn how to heal people without the use of drugs or surgery like I do. You could learn, but it would take you years and I'm sure you wouldn't want to learn it if you were only going to use it once. If I possessed the skill to code with php, I would definitely help debug this but I don't so it would be nice to see someone that did code...such as the creator or the supporters of this mod...it'd be nice to see a fix to problems that seem consistent on every board that has installed this. This mod has been up for a year and doesn't even work on 90% of people's boards...
I commend you for being able to code this and will give you praise if you do fix it. I didn't even know anyone was working on it since the coder just up and disappeared and it hasn't been updating in the longest period of time. And I hadn't seen you post anywhere saying you were updating it. If I missed it, I'm sorry. |

Hello i had made some polls and thats working great i see 4 of them. I voted and some of my members voted. So all that works great but i set this up for "Topic Fortnight" and i didnt get a winner. I have as of now a winner wich is 76 votes and that winner didnt run. I am using the lastest version of VB and i have no mods on this forum. This is a fresh instal.
I do not allow users to delete. I also did what you stated to do going to admincp > scheduled task manager > 'Run Now' nominate topic task But thats not working either. Can you help please i do think this is a great mod just wished that it was bug free |

After performing Recount Nominations within ACP, Total Post Nominations and Nominated x Times have been set to 0 under MEMBERS WITH MOST AWARDS. Current Nominees appears to be correct. TOPICS WITH MOST AWARDS contains past winners, but each states Submitted 0 times for nomination. Viewing these topics seems to indicate they have lost award status and there are no nominations indicated either. The nominate button has disappeared, however, which seems to indicate that it recognizes that the topic has been nominated in the past and the eligibility term has not yet passed. I tried manually running the cron task, to no avail. Have I lost all history by running Recount Nominations?

I'm just wondering if you are planning on releasing it or not...especially since you said you were almost done 2 months ago I figured now would be a good time to ask for a progress report.
And if you are not going to release it, just let us know so we can all uninstall this and unsubscribe from this thread. Thanks |

How do I integrate it with Chief First Post - Every Page [Forum based], specifically with the Articles section?
I went on Template ada_postbit_articles and added the following line: Code:
<a href="nominate_topic.php?$session[sessionurl]do=nominate_topic_add&p=$post[postid]&securitytoken=$bbuserinfo[securitytoken]" id="nominate_topic_button_$post[postid]"<if condition="$vboptions[disable_ajax] != 2"> onclick="nominate_topic_give($post[postid]); return false;"</if> style="display:$display_nominations_image" rel="nofollow"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/nominate/nominate_topic.gif" alt="$vbphrase[nominate_topic_nominatethis]" border="0" /></a> How can I integrate it? Thanks for your help and sorry for my English. |
