Advanced @User Tagging Mod: What is it?
DragonByte Technologies is proud to present [DBTech] Advanced @User Tagging. This version introduces several major new features that users have requested, and some others we were unable to fit in v1.0. The @user Tagging mod is designed to increase activity on your forum by allowing members to mention each other in posts when talking about them. This is done in a very easy way, very similar to how Twitter mentions people. We use @ ; as the tags, so for instance you could say: ---- This new mod from @Dragonbyte Tech; is pretty cool. ---- The ?@DragonByte Tech;? Will become a link to the DragonByte Tech users profile, it will also inform DragonByte Tech they had been mentioned, and link to the relevant thread/post via a new area in the profile section, as well as a new tab in the shoutbox. It also allows members to ?tag? the thread for specific other members by inputting their usernames in the tag box above the posts of the thread. This is a great way to increase your forum activity with no extra admin input required ? people will start to mention posts/threads to their friends, which will increase the amount of posting. This is especially useful of forums which have an international contingent (so threads posted in during the night for some of your members don't go overlooked) or forums which have a lot of posts/threads each day ? again to make sure that a post a person might want to read doesn't get lost in the crowd. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you like this mod please hit the button to the right ----> Please remember to click the, button to the right if you installed the mod ----> What does 'Marking As Installed' do ? * It helps you to stay on top of updates - members who have installed modifications will be notified by us whenever new updates are available. * For security issues - vbulletin.org will contact all members who have installed a modification whenever a security issue is brought to their attention. * Marking a modification as installed also helps us know how many people are using our work, giving us extra incentive to provide more features and new modifications. We appreciate the support! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Priority support & Product Demos available at: http://www.dragonbyte-tech.com/forum.php ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Translations available @ [url="http://www.dragonbyte-tech.com/forums/91-Translations[/URL] Support for translations handled by the translator in its respective threads only. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Major Features Twitter-style @ "Mentions": Typing @username produces a "Mention" that will alert the user to your post, as well as link to their profile. Quote Alerts: Members you quote will be alerted, ensuring that discussions can continue smoothly even if they left the thread. Profile Integration: Displays Mentions, Tags and Quotes in profile tabs for quick overview of a member's activities within the mod. Complete Feature List Lite Emails:

That's weird, maybe it's a skin specific file then. I'll check it out

Doing that kind of checks on major posts like forums would lag up browsers I reckon.

I've not purchased this or installed it yet mainly because I'm concerned that without making it simple people won't use it. Mike |

There's always the BBCode button that lets your users type an username without needing to know the @ and ; keys
We'll investigate for future versions, but we can't promise anything due to the fact that this mod is not the single reason why someone would type the @ letter |

Whether it adds an @ or not, the users still do the same thing. They use [mention] tags or the post editor button. Removing the @ may be an aesthetically preferable situation, but it makes no difference to how the users use the mod.

Still on the fence A question --- if the user opts for the Toolbar option, does it use AJAX like other areas of the site to predict/finish the username? Like when you send a PM for instance, how it pops up with the usernames as you type.
I'm just concerned to spend money on this and then find people have type-o's in usernames. I was talking to one of my mods about this and he kept leaving out the space in MY username when I was showing him how to use it. So if a mod even has trouble... I really want this, I think it could be great to increase social networking on the site itself. It's a shame it couldn't work in-line in the editor itself, as you type (just like I am typing this post right now), if it detected @ it could start displaying usernames as someone typed I wonder how facebook does it. @ctrlbrk: I understand your concern, the reason why we didn't implement AJAX checking like FaBook does is that not only may it be hard (or impossible) to hook into the WYSIWYG editor (that's yet to be confirmed, we'll investigate for the future though), but it may cause confusion if an user is typing an email address and not attempting to tag.
Additionally, the AJAX check isn't instant, so users may put typos in there before the AJAX check has a chance to kick in. It's certainly something we'll look into though, I'll raise this as a Task in our project tools |

Sorry for bugging you guys again, I know your like "just install the damn thing already!" but I am methodical
Question, lets say a user tries to tag but screws it up, like leaves out a space or semicolon. If a mod or admin goes back later and edits the post to fix it, will the tagged user still be notified (on edit, instead of initial post)? Mike |

I don't remember seeing this mod before, thanks I've been looking for something similar.
