BB Code Enhancements - AME3 - Auto Media Embeding and Video Extender

vBulletin 4.0.3 has changed the way video codes are handled and in the process, inadvertently broke AME3. I have submitted a bug report and believe that the issue will be quickly resolved. There is a manual fix you can apply for 4.0.3 here in the interim.

AME3 is the sequel to the multi award winning AME 1x and AME 2x systems. AME3. This time, its different.

AME3 does 3 things:

• It allows users to simply paste URLs into their message without having to use the video bbcode or video popup box.
• It allows you to add, edit and customise the video definitions that ship with vB4
• It allows you to import community created definitions to extend the system in ways you otherwise couldn't.

Now you can use AME anywhere you can use video bbcode: posts, blogs, visitor messages, the CMS, etc...

Note that I am releasing this early for beta testing and general feedback. There is currently a bug in RC2, RC4 and 4.0.0 that will prevent AME from working however there is a workaround posted below.

I have written a pretty comprehensive readme and attached it seperatly to this post. I suspect both this post and the readme will get updated as AME3 becomes finalised.

It's not nearly as 'popular with the community' as you might think. Some people are just lazy and won't use bbcode no matter what you do. Saying that auto-parsing video tags is 'popular' with these people is disingenuous, since they were never really given a choice. Not like you can count the people that would go to the effort to "noparse" their video links.

As admin I kind of missed it at first. But I don't think it made a bit of difference to most users, who likely don't even think about it as they click on an unparsed video url to watch it.

I looked through the first 6-7 pages of this thread and couldn't find an answer, so I apologize if this has been asked (I'm sure it has been). I installed AME3 but its not working. If I post a youtube link on my forums, it just comes out as a link to the video. It doesn't seem to embed. If I do the [video ] tags around the youtube link then it does embed correctly but I just want to be able to post the straight link.

That doesnt work for me... i have everything set up fine.. the AME CP in the admin... am i meant to do something with that.. ?? or...

Because when i put a youtube link in a thread,, it just comes up as the url and not the video... Help please

Have you also imported the xml from the vb-4.0.4-ame3.zip file?
I forgot that in the first step and only uploaded the files
What i did is:
- Upload files from AME3.zip
- import xml from AME3.zip
- Upload files from vb-4.0.4-ame3.zip
- import xml from vb-4.0.4-ame3.zip (let overwrite)

When you create a posting, do you have the 'Automatically convert links into videos' button selected?

I had the same problems with 4.1.2, but this this fixed it for me as well. Thanks a lot!
