Default Question for SaintDog or Whomever can Answer

Hey,

To be honest I have been looking over this board as well as vbulletin.com and I am not very pleased with VB3 in general. Sure it has a lot of amazing features but I am one of those people that look heavily at the layout of a site and try to facilitate interaction with the board and it seems some of VB3 elements are oddly positioned or just unnecessary to begin with.

My question is how much different is the template structure in VB3? Is it completely redone where stuff you had in one template, in 2.3.0, are not in another completely different template? Also how easy is to pick up the new template system, for someone pretty familiar with VB, will it be a pain to relearn all the templates?

Thanks for your help!

vB3 is a virtual rewrite of vB2. Only SD can answer questions that need access to the admin CP. Remember though that the style you see now is not the final style set. They'll surely rearrange and clean up a lot of stuff for the final release.

Yeah, defintely, I understand this is by no means the "final" style. What I guess I a more interested in is whether the template structure remains that same. .

Templates are inheritable and rely on language packs so I'm sure it will take a great deal of adjusting.

The template system has been re-done, the 2.x.x styles will not work with 3.0, except for the colors (which is still very limited). You will need to re-do any style you have for 3.0.

As for the template system, as above, it is a total re-write and is a bit different from that of the 2.x.x versions. It will take some getting used to, although it is not that much harder to access or to use.

Personally from the screenshots I've seen I think that the template editor looks like crap but I suppose I'll just have to wait and use it before I can really judge it.

Sounds like Epic when they were getting ready to release Unreal Tournament 2K3, "Two more weeks!"
