Merged skin with default:need help

Here i smy problem:
I went ahead and uploaded a new a skin...problem is when i didi i merged it with my default which had alot of hacks...now...although it has been merged, when i look at the templates in the admincp->styel manager->expnad templates, all the templates seem to be there....although they look as though they are there, they are not showing up...my question is, how do i get them all to show up on the merged skin?....is this possible?.....and what steps would be needed to to get it back to default again if at all possible?
