Default Limitation of PHP Processes

One of the users who are using my journal is experiencing HTTP 500 internal server error messages. the host is using a limit of 3 php processes. i am unsure of what a php process is exactly and how i can optimize my script to use less. please any help is appreciated

Ask your host if mod_security is installed, if it is it needs to be set-up correctly to work with vBulletin. See this thread:

the funny thing is that vbulletin works but my journal hack doesnt work on this person's server. im totally confused as to what a php process really is and how many am i actually creating>_>

here is a quote from the peron's unix admin:
Quote:
I was informed by our Unix Administrator that
this is due to the fact that your php code is generating more than 3 php processes at the same time and the server is killing them (the limit is 3).
Please redesign your code to have this situation
resolved .

mod_security is known to break some parts of vBulletin while not breaking other similar parts. You get errors with the default installation of mod_security because of this:

Quote:
The default mod_security settings from the mod_security site DO break some bits because it forbids the some enctypes of POSTed requests.

However, the version I have laid out in my first post does NOT break things, as I removed what I felt to be paranoid settings and instead configured mod_security to solely look for known attacks.
At any rate, you need to find out exactly how this server is set-up before I can help you any further.

As far as php processes go, you can't really control how many are called at a time. You should be concerned with writting fast, clean code. Cache data when needed and make sure your SQL is efficent.

Hello people I am the person in question here. I am on a shared enviroment so they can not change the mod_security thing for me (so they say). I would love to get a dedicated server but I do know how to run a server and it is sooo expensive to get a dedicated server with support. Anyway, I have been seeing this internal server now on more parts of the site... I have vblinks directory installed and all the sudden the admin cp part of the vblinks is doing the same thing. Is it possible that this is caused by the mod_security thing also? It worked fine for a long while. It also happened in phpmyadmin. Help please! I appreciate everything guys!

How big is your site ? if it's not very big I would consider moving hosts as your current one is obviously not very helpful.
