how do you get this thing to work right, i'm trying to contrust it before the main query which pulls data as i have a switch function for displaying the data in it's difference circumstances and thus uses the page nav for it's queries, yet in order to get it to work properly i need to have it dependant on the same query

could someone school me in the proper method of getting it to work?

Look in the vb files and see how they did it...once you see it it is easy to understand....
