Well, its been so long since we heard Jellsoft's talking to their lawyer and have yet to hear anything back.. I think something is not right going on here..
I just saw a copy of the hack tonight and made me come back here and check the thread... I am just asking to have some update on the matter from Jellsoft if we may. I don't think this matter should die just like it did on this forum, its been so long guys. In my views, this hack should be reinstated >> I am not a lawyer, but I stayed at Holiday Inn Express Thanks |

They were ok with it when I asked them, and coded it privatly. I am even running it now with great response, but when it was publically released I wonder why it isn't allowed, it complies with their agreement atleast to my knoweldge.

The vBHosting hack goes against the sublicense portion of the vBulletin license and is not allowed to be distributed.

I dont agree with that statement at all. If the entire thing is running under the original set of software (1 instance) then I dont see the problem.
You can do this now just without the hack by allowing other sites to link directly to your forum. Its obvious the underlying issue here is that Jelsoft sees it as a potential problem for sales which I completely disagree. Thats like saying any of that ezboard crap could even compare to this software. All this hack allows is someone to us VB instead of Ezboard. Which I think would increase name recognition and sales over time. Its kind of like the tariff or not to tariff argument. I think VB would be much better off in the future to let this happen and even support it. They could then restrict the number of forums etc so that no one tries to create a competitor to ezboard by using a single VB license (cant see that happening but the world is full of idiots). I remember this same thing happened with UBB a while back. A dev had made a MYSQL hacked version of UBB to do exactly this and infopop didnt mind because on every page was the infopop copyright (can you say super googled?) Plus since it only allowed a single forum for each user it was a great advertisment for the up and coming forum admins to go ahead and buy a full UBB. I would love to use this on my site and get a lot of my friends off of that dang ezboard crap. But I dont want to piss off any of the VB folks who have been so helpfull. I just hope they do consider it. It makes me feel the same way like I do against miniclip for being so short sighted in support of the VB3 Arcade. Thanks again, -Jason |

Hostboard http://www.hostboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi Check out the infopop links :-) UBBDev link about it- http://www.ubbdev.com/ubbcgi/ultimat.../10/2438.html? Now, I am not saying have a massive VB makes any sense but it isnt hurting Infopop one bit. As Tony Soprano would say "Ah.. What ya gonna do about it" :-) -Jason |
