A way to use existing users data/login?

I want to add vB3 to my website, but am concerned about how my existing users will be able to login to it. It would be difficult and confusing for them to have to register separatly for the forum. It would be nice if there were a way to integrate the users system of my website with that of the forum.

This situation must have come up before, does anyone have any experiencein dealing with it?

This is a common question - but there is no common answer as there are tons of different accounting systems.

Generally, there are 3 ways to do so
1) Modify your other software to user vB user table
2) Modify vB to use your other user accounts
3) Keep two accounts but make sure that accounts are created in both systems

I think i'll make a function build_vb_account(username, password) that could be used for such needs.

Okay. I was sort of hoping the vB guys had made a class for this sort of thing. I know I could go in there and hack together something that works, but I would never really be sure that I found everything. I would have to disable things like password recovery since my users system already has this, and disable anything else made redundant by my existing system.

I think this is a great idea for those with little experience in PHP...
