Default Damn it...

I hate my machine now:angry:

Why??

Firstly, my machine struggles to cope with Windows XP, and multiple browsers open at once...

Therefore, I need a memory upgrade...

At the moment, I have 256MB... My dad says you need as much as you can give for XP, but 512MB is a bare minimum for someone who uses it as intensively as I do...

So I open up my machine, to find that I have to have the most expensive type of memory in existence to my knowledge, RIMM...

To put a price perspective:

2 x 256MB RIMM = ?260
2 x 512MB DDR DIMM = ?66

:|

So, not only is that a real b***h, but today, me and my dad pulled out my desk for a shift-around, and I find out, that my 2 USB ports at the back are broken:angry:

So no big deal, but now I have to plug my keyboard in the front, a real kick-able hazard

Anyway, I found that Micro-Star no longer build my motherboard, so a replacement is out of the question...

So I look up on Micro-Star's website, and find that they have an update for my board, which has roughlly the same profile, but obviously, being newer, can support higher-speed processors...

So I was planning to upgrade my processor anyway, as I feel 2GHz is too slow

This new motherboard will cost me ?120.68 (inc VAT)...

I then find out that the b***hes Packard Bell used a socket 423 board, meaning a 423 pin processor, whereas the new board is 478:angry:

This means I have to find ?500 to get memory, a board and a new processor, plus get a debit card so I can sell my RIMM and 2GHz procesor on eBay...

I have to get new memory, as the new type is DDR DIMM

Any suggestions, or know anyone that wants some RIMM / a 2GHz processor? (this is not advertising, just a notice that I will be selling on eBay soon)

Packard Bell is useless hence why (IIRC) NEC cut them off.

Enjoy eBay.

@filburt - Yeh...Usually they are, but most things about this machine aren't

Just the memory, motherboard and processor

I have an AMD Athlon XP 1900+ [1.21GHz] with WinXP Home, 512MB RAM; it works fine and I don't need to restart for days, even after using heavy programs like Adobe Photoshop 7; several messengers; Music; Movies; Downloads; Everything under the sun.

It treats me well, I give it hell. Great relationship I have with my PC

And erm, back on topic, Chris, your only option is to buy your computer flowers and hope she understands

If I sold my body to science, I would have to be paid thousands per second
