Well, you guys will only see me here in the mornings for the next 2-3 days, last night my computer and I had a run in and it has since been left in a non-useable state.
Last night I received my package from directron.com, I ordered a new thermaltake heatsink for my processor to keep things a little cooler. I started by shutting my computer down and then removing the power and cords to ensure all power was removed from the case before messing with things. After the power was removed, I removed the heatsink and fan from the processor to replace it with the new one. The installation went fine, although the old heatsink was pretty hard to remove (those metal bars are not easy to bend off on the Tt heatsinks). After the heatsink was installed I booted up my computer and boom, it happens, the worst possible thing of all; my processor was FRIED. I started smelling burning coming from the fan, at first I felt it was just the new smell of the fan although it started to smell all through my room. So I am now faced with a small problem, I may have to buy more than just a new processor. I am not sure if my board will support XP Processors (which is what I am wanting), so I may have to buy a new board, processor, and DDR RAM as not too many stores carry the SDRAM PC133 Motherboards around here, they are all DDR based ![]() Just how I wanted to spend another $200-$600 |

That really sucks. Ive had it happen to me twice in the last year myself.
The frist with my old p3 600 mhz slot one. While doing some overclocking i fried the processer, mobo, ram, and the geforce 2 card i had in it. Then again with my amd t-bird putting on a new heatsink. Well i hope you can fix it soon, its realy a pain spending all that money in parts.. |

That sucks SD. I've had my HD fried once, but it was in another way. A power surge. Believe me when I smelt frying I went crazy. Happened a few years ago.
Anyway I hope you can return soon, and resolve your problem. Good luck! ![]() |

If you installed the heatsink properly then obviously it shouldn't have done that and you should ask the company that made the heatsink to replace all damaged components.

Well I am now back and with an Athlon XP 2100+ and running smoothly, except my computer is telling me to check my system health during boot when it originally said it was OK; just something else to look into I guess.
I am glad that it was only the processor that needed to be replaced, I had plans for the other money and really did not want to place it back into computer parts ![]() It turned out that the heatsink was mounted correctly, although the chip itself was weak and a tiny fragment chiped off the edge hence allowing the processor to burn up (very black around that section). The new processor came to $150, so I am not out much at all considering I could have had to bring in a whole new motherboard, processor, and RAM ![]() Glad to be back, although I have a load of work to catch up on ![]() |

Good to see you back faster SD, hope you get all that work caught up on soon enough to enjoy yourself.

3 days placed me back about 1 week, so I am not too bad off, although it is enough to keep me busy for a little bit
![]() There may be a new design coming in sooner or later ![]() ![]() |

The design will probably be more on the darker side of things, although still maintaining the blue look (what can I say, if given then chance, blue is my design color of choice); although it should be appealing to most, it will not take over as the default style, it will be an option
