how do i remove the sticky: prefix?

I looked in the showthread templates, as well as forumdisplay templates. I also downloaded showthread.php and forumdisplay.php and couldn't find it anywhere. I tried changing the phrase to &nbsp ; but that leaves a noticeable space and you can't leave it blank.
