Need assistance with CMS "Layout Manager"

The problem:
Using the stock "Layout" of "Home (25,75,240px)" and "Content Columns" of "2x1 column", I have yet to see anything show up in the third "240px" sidebar column.

I've tried to make a new version of the "Home (25,75,240px)" layout with different widgets in the third column and still nothing displays in the third column.

I've tried changing the layout to something else with a right sidebar and still nothing displays in it.

I am obviously missing something here.

Is there a tutorial that would help me understand the Layout Manager better?

Nevermind... I figured it out. The forums are not being used and I evidently was placing forum widgets in the sidebar.
