Avoiding Duplicate Content in CMS

Does anyone know how to avoid duplicate content in the CMS? If you add an article to a section, you have duplicate content because it shows up both in the article and a summary of it in the section

Is it possible to add "content" to a section, not an article. For example have the section act as a page, as opposed to a blog page where the articles are listed
