Slight technical difficulty applying a theme

I just upgraded a forum from 3.8 to 4.1.4 and its a big change. My problem is that any style I download from here, I cant get it to install properly.
The XML install goes smooth but nothing happens. The image paths work but all the forum colors/fonts stay the same.
What am I missing?
