Default Backup SQL does not restore forum?

My forum was attacked. All of the files were deleted. I was able to get the latest backup SQL off my VPS. I was running 4.0.7, which I have re-installed. The problem is I have edited my config.php file and re uploaded the SQL but it does not restore the forum.

What am I doing wrong and can someone help me with this?

your going to need a good backup. it is important that once your site is up, you need to backup the system and then try the backup so you know it is good, its all very risky business when it comes to retoring a data base, unless you really know what your doing.

the file could be corrupt , your connection may be bad ...reupload it until it works..

I use VSA auto backup and it works but you will have to rename the backups to your database name its not a one button process by any means.

it backs up your database daily at 6 in the morning. you should keep at least 2 weeks of backups on the hard drive, that gives you some options when something like this happens. also you need to know when versions are compromised, not sure if 407 is but i know a lower version is compromised and that's why new versions come out. I want to say 4.0.2 was the one but ....

not sure about that I run the newest versions I would if i was you go ahead and go to at least 4.1.1 since your down..im still debating about this latest version as i have some weird stuff happening on my own site with 4.1.2

yes it was 402 i was thinking about here is a google search http://www.google.com/search?q=compr...ient=firefox-a

one more thing if you were attacked that means to do what your saying they did you had to lose control of FTP, you need to fix that right now or it will happen again

I think this is what your talking about. You must import your backup.sql in phpMyAdmin into your database from your hosting cPanel.

When you mean your forum was atatcked and all of the files were deleted, can you tell us what kind of attack it was and only the forum files were deleted? Was the db deleted as well? if it was not and it was not infected by the attack, then you do not need to restore a previous backup. All you have to do is upload a copy of the latest vb version files, connect it to the same db and then run the upgrader to bring your db up to date.

If the db was infected/deleted from the hack, then you can restore your recent backup but use the files from the latest vb version files, and then run the upgrader to bring your db up to date.

Now, about the problems that you are having to restore the db, you are being very vague and general. In order to get faster and better help you will need to be more detailed. For ex, tell us the exact errors you got, how big the db backup file is and how were you trying to restore it, etc etc.

Ok, so I am sure my forum was exploited somehow via, some type of shell script that infected it using a sort of IFRAME exploit. How? I am not sure. The day my forum was attacked, it showed nothing but a blank page, I then viewed the source and in the source it has something like <i frame=" and it led to a website in the uk I never heard of or was associated with.

I do not have the website on hand it iframed to. I then asked my host to help me. They did but during there attempt they reported back that my entire public_html folder was deleted. At which time I then reinstalled a fresh VB of the same version.
I had my host pull a backup SQL off my server. Which they then tried to restore via SSH. This did not seem to work, they also edited my config.php to match the new database/user they created. They were able to pull 2 backups. Which they tried both.

I opened myphpadmin and checked the sql, all checks came back good. I do however have a backup from NOV 6th months before the attack. Which I have not yet tried uploading only because the newer SQL's check came back ok.

I was thinking maybe I need to run upgrade script. How excactly do I do this? And do I need to upload my install.php back to do so.

Thank you all for your help.

The database is about 37mb, it was tried to be restored via SSH, and myphp. Upon uploaded it was all succesfull yet my forum does not restore. I am not excatly a vbulletin expert but i have moved forums before (altho it was nothing more then copying the public html folder over) ..........

I have read that sometimes Upgrade may need to be ran...yet I am unsure how to do so...
