Add new search query type.

I've modified my thread table to have an additional field that is a numeric value. I want to add a new search (similiar to the New Posts search) that will search for all threads that have a value in this field. I've been digging my way through the search code but it's near impossible to make any sense out of it. Is there an easy way for me to add this search?
