I am the admin for my forum. When I post a link (like a link to a youtube video or even a link to a different thread) I can see the link, but other people can't.
Here's a screenshot of what I can see (I can see my entire post including the link). But here's what other people see. You'll notice the link is missing. General users can't see each other's links either. I'm clueless as to why this is happening. I'm using VB 4.0.0 Thanks! |

Create a new style with no parent:
If it is still happening - Try disabling your modifications/plugins and see if you still have this problem. Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php PHP Code:

I still have the vB4 Default Style as an option (I can switch between the two styles using the dropdown at the bottom of the page). I switched to the default style and checked the post from a test account - the link is still missing. I'll try to disable the plugins and see if that helps.
--------------- Added [DATE]1267231830[/DATE] at [TIME]1267231830[/TIME] --------------- Can I edit the config.php file from within the Admin Control Panel or do I need to FTP into the site files? --------------- Added [DATE]1267239262[/DATE] at [TIME]1267239262[/TIME] --------------- So I logged into my config.php via FTP and added the disable hooks code you suggested. It disabled all my plugins and links are working again. So I assume now I have to figure out which plugin is causing the problem, right? I'm really new to vBulletin, so sorry for the silly questions. But is there an easier way to do this than to uncheck the "active" box for each plugin? Some plugins have 15 or 20 boxes to uncheck. Also, I noticed some of the plugins had a strikethrough through their name. Why is that? I would have thought that it meant that they were not active, but the "active" box is checked ... so that's not it. Thanks again for helping out a noob! |

Try going though and disabling products first - a product is usually made up of many plugins so that will disable them all for that product.

It turns out the problem was with a plugin called Typhoon_Special_Access, which only shows up under products, not under plugins. When I disabled it the links re-appeared. It looks like Typhoon is designed to limit what a guest can see without registering. Guests see a "you must register to see the rest of the post" when Typhoon is enabled. When Typhoon is disabled guests can see everything.
I like having the guest masking feature as it encourages people to become members. Can anyone recommend another plugin that performs that function? I find it interesting that I can't find Typhoon when I google it. It's like the plugin doesn't exist under that name. --------------- Added [DATE]1267293526[/DATE] at [TIME]1267293526[/TIME] --------------- Oops, it's Tyfoon, not Typhoon. My mistake. |
