I'm nearing completion with a site for a client, but I need to install a site wide search ability.
I'm hoping to use the Custom Google Site Search, however it is behaving sporadically. For instance, if I search 'Smith', the engine seems to find all user pages, static pages, etc... that contain the word Smith. However, if I search 'Beskind', who is a user on the site, the search does not locate him. The search seems to find words on a hot or cold basis similar to this example. This may be an issue with google and vBulletin interacting, as I have tried the following example on another of my vBulletin sites: http://www.google.com/sitesearch/ Another quirk I have noticed is that and older Google site search that I re tailored works just fine (except that it places ads all over the place). Does anyone have experience with this? Some notes about the site: I've done some painstaking additions to the user table of the database, I added several fields such as First Name, Last Name, Address etc... And then called these fields in the appropriate php files and templates on the site. I did this, instead of using the custom fields in the vBulletin software because the directory, and the ability to hide certain additional fields while not others from logged in users was important to the client. (with custom fields, you can either show all or hide all via template conditionals, but you cannot pick and choose). However, I don't think this is causing the problem, because running the custom search on another, unmodified vbulletin site yields the same problems... Thanks for your time. |
