Move a Database to a different host/forum

Ok well I have a friend that I am helping out, she has a temp forum a friend lent her. She has crappy hosting and I can get better hosting, but I will be using my forum license, so I wanted to know how I will get that database she has right now on her forum to be moved to mine.

We do not want to start over or anything. So how would I do this?

I created a database backup off the forum. Or should I do this from a mysql backup?
