This is because you are making the sub-forums yourself. vBulletin has a default feature to display sub-forums.
ACP -> vBulletin Options -> Forum Listings Display Options -> Depth of forums (Forumhome) -> change to (if not already) 2 -> Depth of sub-forums -> change to 1.
