I just had my site transfered to a new server. It is reachable by IP address only. But when I click something to test the site to make sure it works, I get taken to my active site on my older sever. I assume I need to modify something to keep my test activites on the new server. I want to update to 3.8.3 and then make a final backup before switching the DNS over to the new servers. So what do i need to modify to keep all my testing in the new server and not be forwarded to the old server?

Yes, you should modify config.php with the new details for the server. It's in includes/config.php. Also, check in vboptions > site name/etc and make sure that is all correct. And check all paths for attachments/avatars/etc if they are in the file system.

will the test site work if I dont mess around with the attachments, avatars etc...I dont car if it looks bad, just wanna make sure the site works and it was transfered correctly. also One last question. Would this be the final procedure to update my site as it sits on my new sever before changing the DNS. Turn off my board. Use backup function from cPanel to back up these data bases from the current server. Home Directory MySQL Databases Email forwarders configuration Email filters configuration Then uses cpanel from my new server to upload those files to the new server. Change DNS settings to new servers, open board back up. Does that seem corrent? |

Yes mike that's pretty much it, if your database is rather large it can be a little tricky, there is a free php utility called bigdump that is a huge help in uploading and installing large databases. I have used it for data bases of over 50 megs (as a gzipped file) without any dramas.
You can then use ftp to upload the database and get round the timeout issues so often experienced when uploading large databases. |
