They seem to spend all day lerking around my forum and frequently generate errors attempting to create calendar events.
Almost all day when I search to see who is logged into my site I see Guest google IP address and a stop sign Creating event Do I perhaps have a permission error on one of my directories? |

Nah...No need for them to get into those files thats why vBulletin gives them an error page telling them and any other visitor they do not have permission to view it. Unless, you are a registered member on the forum. Nothing to worry about and its good that Google is on your forum all day.
Google bots and Google Adsense bots won't leave my website. But that's a great thing, they are just feeding the search engine with my content, and I keep it updated and very relevant to all news. My forum was a PR 1 in 2 weeks and they usually do it every 3-4 months. Guess I launched my forum at the right time. Overall, I don't think you have to worry about the Google Bots. take this file, put it in the root of your vBulletin directory, where the index.php file is...
it will instruct the web crawlers to stop visiting these files, making them stop posting the calendar etc... |

Thank you for your assistance I'm about to add the robots.txt file to my system. I assume that I need to also supply the relative path name along with the file name?
ie in the sample there is /poll.php .. I would supply /forums/poll.php ??? or ./forums/poll.php |
