Can I use the promotional to use as secondary...
For example: 20 post members promote to user group 2 [as a seconday] 50 post members are promoted to usergroup3 [also as secondary] 100 post members are promoted to usergroup 4 [also as secondary] so when you see a user they would have Multi usergroups. ? there by each usergroup [promo] would have different features that open up to the member. Like blog when one reaches 100 posts. How would I set that up so that user can move to have multi features? My think is that if I have to delete many posts from a user [due to off topic chit chat], they would also drop in there promotion. I am also open to suggestions and ideas. Thank in advance for your help. |

You may use Promotions to add secondary groups based on post count. However, you cannot 'demote' based on post count (you may only demote based on reputation).

thank you lynne for you instant reply.
If the groups were set up as secondary, and the post were not the right amount, their promotion group would not drop them down? Humm, so once a member earns the usergroup for that promo features they will always have it. [in term of the auto system] Im sorry Im new at VB, Would it work if i set them as primary? Any suggestions on how I could do this? I just dont want members chatting off topic with small replys just to advance their position [promotion/rank/usergroup] Again Thanks and I love the cat. |

There is no way, using default vbulletin, to demote the users based on post count unless you do it manually.
Did you know you can set certain forums to not count posts for users? So, have an off-topic forum and set "Count Posts Made in this Forum Towards User Post Counts" to No for the forum and then post count won't increase for users in that forum. |

Hial The Mighty Lynne thank you thank you...
Would those 'no posts counts' show in their postbit [the user column that's shown when a member posts. I think it called post bit] Im thinking not, but thought i should ask, ive been wrong many times before. thank you that will do very well as my start. |

If you set it to not count posts in certain forums, it won't count there - period - anywhere. It will still show that field in the postbit template in that forum, it just won't increase their post count.

kk, a couple of questions.
1.) where do members see there group, or permission set????? Next question: I set up [usergroup promotions] as secondary, I can see members are [toggled] apart of three usergroups, but they do not have access to the additional [promotional] features. I checked that each 'promotional usergroup' is set to allow member to have other groups. 2.)what else am i missing. should'nt user group 5 permissions over ride usergroup 4 [agin set all as secondary where by there are always apart of 'registed usergroup' {the first membership lvl} argg. Thanks in advance for the help. |

1) See what group? If it is a publically joinable group they are a member of, it will show on their member.php page. If they joined a group, they would also see their usergroups under User CP > Group Memberships. If they are not a member of any other group, nothing will show up there. (The best thing to do is to play with this on a test site and see how it works.)
2) In permissions, a Yes will override a No. So, you may add permissions through other usergroups, but not take them away. Go verify that the users are in fact a member of these other usergroups. |

"see what group?" the user group permission they are in/ or allows, like blogs, or pm, whatever..
ok, the promotional groups are not showing up in cp> group memberships. I dont want members to be able to request to join. I set the promo user groups [secondary] to be able to have access only if the post count is met. Then members are auto place in by VB system. But the group that a member avances to does not show up there, nor are the permissions that the member is allowed there either. if i set the promo usergroup as primary group then the features are available to use by members, but once a member advances to next [promo usergroup] level they are no longer in the previous group. I verified that the users are in fact a member of these other usergroup by 1.)in admin cp >search user> user manager> usergroup options> listed are primary "reg" deisplay "default" and additional usergroups 'multi-toggled' usergroups. 2.)in admin cp>usergroups>usergroup manager>custom usergroups>show all additional users members are showing up in the right [usergroup promo] places, they just dont have the additional features. I checked that each 'promotional usergroup' is set to allow member to have other groups. if i set the promo groups to primary that works, but there seems to be something im missing so to use promo as secondary. What could I possible be missing? Are promo groups that are set to private supose to show up in members cp>groupmembership ????? |

Their Primary Group needs to have "Allow Users to have Member Groups" set to Yes.
