Occasionally we break our max concurrent users record and we hardly ever know why.
It's usually because some post or some thread has got viral round the net and loads of people are viewing, but we don't know which post or thread because it's all over by the time we return to the forums. So here is the awesome modification I propose: If the max concurrent users record is broken more than n hours after it was last broken, data about who's online is saved. We'd set it to a couple of hours because when it is broken, it's broken many times in a short amount of time as more users come to the site. So we don't want to run this report every time it is broken as we'd load the server at what is already a busy time. So we'd run it if it's broken more than 2 hours after it was last broken. When it's broken, we'd need to have a breakdown of the top 10/20/50/?? busiest pages (including vBadvanced home page, forum list etc.), posts, threads and forums are. I.e. ordered by how many users were visiting them at the moment when the record was broken. Would this modification be difficult? Do you think it's a good idea? |
