Recording failed logins on admin & mod accounts

I'm sure I once saw a hack that would email a defined admin each time there was a failed login on an admin account. I think it emailed the time, username, password used, and IP address of whoever tried to login (may even povided a match of the IP address for any existing users).

Can't find one now, but it would be a really useful tool. I've had a number of mods locked out for periods because someone has apparently used up their 5 attempts. I'm pretty sure this is one or more existing users trying to hack an admin or mod account to gain access to private areas.

I haven't managed to get the log for failed admin logins working from adminCP yet, but I'd really like mods protected too. Anyone know where I could get something like this?

Actually what I need is a notification by email, or a log, or failed user logins, rather than admincp or modcp. I'd only need that stored for a couple of days.
