Best practice forum or root?

Is it best practice to install Vbulletin as root ? Just curious whats best if using VBA CMPS to install Vbulletin's files under forum or under root directory?

Pros and Cons?

Example: www.mywebsite.com or should have www.mywebsite.com/forum
