Private forum with public static html landing pages

I am setting up a new site for a not for profit organization I am working with. I picked up the domain name, have a new VB license key, and did a three year pre paid hosting for them with GoDaddy. In short, I want this set up and running for some time. The big reason I went with vBulletin is the great adminUI so they don't have to worry about a web person.

Now I am doing the et up and looking for suggestions.

The forums will be private, users require admin approval, all that is easy to do, and with the ton of mods, easy to tweak it intowhat will be a great site

Now the landing page needs to be public content. I could do static html, but that requires someone to know how to ftp the files. I could set up the front page in Wordpress, make pages instead of posts, and let wordpresws be the locked down front page, and drop vBulletin into the /forums directory

I have seen people using vBulletin as a landing page, but aside from some statistics about recent posts and logged in users, not seen it used as a CMS for static content.

Can any recommend any sites to look at that are using vBulletin and its mods to make public front pages / static pages? Besides this forum that is
