Yes, you can jump through hoops with Promotions, but this isn't going to force them to do anything.
I think it's a really bad idea, and if I went to a forum that tried to force me to post an intro, I'd either promptly leave or just post nonsense. |

You could always have them complete a "bio" field or something in their profile on registration, then use the text from that field to populate a new thread when their registration is complete.
There are a couple of mods that accomplish this functionality in one way or another. |
