Scuttle integration with vB login

I've looked into trying to get Scuttle (open source delicious like project) to integrate with vB, and I seem to be hitting a snag on how vB md5's the password with the salt table.

I'd gotten some advice looking around the other corners of the interwebs and was told it might be easier to incorporate the user login / lookups with vB through vB's global.php or a data manager for the user info, however I have no experience in this.

Any help would be great, I would be willing to pay for integration if someone would like to take on such a project and I'd gladly push it back to the community.

Secondly and unrelated does anyone know the template hook to show how many posts are unread by a user in a given thread, not total.
