chmod?

How would you read the following lines?

chmod the following folders to 0777:
geek/gars/images (and any sub folders)
geek/gars/cache (and any sub folders)

I am trying tp upload GARS to my server but I don't understand what the above means. The newbie in me is coming out...HA HA HA!!!

That means you need to allow global writing permissions. Look into your FTP's help files for specifics on how to chmod files. I could tell you how to do it on Panic's Transmit FTP or Cyberducky. If you use those, please reply back.

0777 allows anyone to write to the files, and that's what needed for the server to write to itself (uses "world" I think, but I'm not exactly sure on which permissions it uses.).

To chmod means to set permissions for a file or folder. You should be able to do this with your FTP programm... try right clicking on the file or folder you want to chmod and look for an appropriate option.

If you don't find anything, tell us what FTP client you use

If your on a mac (which I don't think you are), but right click is...

Control (CTRL) + Left Click

...if you don't have the mighty mouse.

Thanks to both of you for the response. I realized how new I am to this when I looked at the install directions and realized I have no idea! On a program like this would you ever upload folders or just files within those folders?

I'm certain SmartFTP has documentation on CHMODDING available on their website, if you need specific directions for doing it.

On SmartFTP, simply right-click on the file and select "CHMOD" on the dropdown.

Yes its the last option in the drop down list. Also click the checkbox under the permissions
