I've only recently installed vbulletin and am gradually getting to grips with it.
What I want to implement is an email / moderator registration thing, so effectively no-one can post before I authorise them to do so. I used to be able to do this in my old (eblah) forum as user rights were set by the admins on an individual basis. They should still be able to sign-up, and have limited views, (which I think I have managed), but no posting rights - is there a way of doing this? Would I have to create a new user group or something? Any help gratefully received. Cheers, ant ![]() |

What I would do is create another usergroup based on the Registered usergroup (Registered being the default that all users are put into). Then, I would set the Registered usergroup to not be able to post, but set the new usergroup to be able to post (if you just copied the original Registered group, it should already be that way). Then, move all your trusted users that you want to post into the new usergroup and leave new users in the Registered group (which can't post).

thanks lynne - a very simple solution that does exactly what I want it to do!

in admincp>vboptions>user registration options> set moderate new users to yes.
Saves the hassle of playing around with usergroups. |

This would work if he doesn't mind them actually posting (and then him approving the posts). It looked to me like he didn't want them to post at all until he approved them (and therefore no deal with the hassle of approving posts).

lynne's right - that's what I wanted to do, but it doesn't seem to have worked.
For the "registered users" I have: Forum viewing permissions - all set to "no" except can view forum; Forum searching permissions - all set to "no" Post / Thread permissions - all set to "no" Surely that should stop new users posting? It doesn't seem too... Any ideas? In the meantime I'll try wrestlepower's option. |

Have you looked at your forum permissions? Are they allowing your registered members usergroup the ability to post? I'm not 100% sure which overrides which...
