We have a news feed forum.
While we could allow members to comment therein, the number of new threads causes commented threads to fall off the list too fast. Conversations are difficult to maintain. So it would be better for us if we had a feeds forum and a separate discussion forum. Now members could copy-n-paste article info over to the discussion side of the fence. But wouldn't it be nicer if there was just a link they could click that would do it all for them? ![]() So I'm thinking it would be great to have a "Start Discussion" link embedded in the article post template that would: 1 - Start a thread in the discussion forum 2 - quote the article and link 3 - Copy the original title as the new title 4 - and allow the member to raise a discussion issue. And while I'm dreaming, if a discussion thread has already been started, then the "Start Discussion" link changes to "Join Discussion" in the original feed thread. Anybody aware of such a mod? Or can you point me in the right direction code-wise? TIA, EDIT: ============== Existing vB functionality is pretty close. 1 - "Multi-quote" the news feed post 2 - "Start thread" in desired forum That'll put the original news post in a new thread in a different forum. If I could put all that in a single function I could call from the feeds template, I'd be set. |
