Custom Avatars on/off? Worked under 3.5 not 3.6

Hi all,

Anyone else noticed this change in Avatar behavior under 3.6?

Under 3.5, you could turn on custom avatar upload for a day, then remove the permissions, and the custom avatars would still display.

Under 3.6, you turn on the custom avatar upload, but when you turn it off the avatars no longer display.

Now, under 3.5 we used filesystem storage. Under 3.6 we use database.

Oddly, the custom avs uploaded under 3.5 still display under 3.6.

Can anyone explain this behavior or suggest a workaround?

I filed a support ticket with vb.com and got a prompt response saying this was the expected behavior, but no explanation as to why it changed from 3.5 or how to work around.
