If I wanted to make my own hacks, I would need to know the following:

HTML
XHTML
Javascript
DHTML
CSS
PHP
MySQL

is there anything I have left out that I should know before I try to edit and create my own hacks?

It depends the extent you want to go to.

PHP & MySQL = Yes
(X)HTML & CSS = Yes

^^ You should have knowledge of those.

Javascript + CSS + DOM = DHTML

Which you don't really need to know to develop modifications...
