(convo started in the "what religion are you" thread)

i believe the question was, are there any bands from the last 20 years that had the kind of influence Hendrix, Joplin, and Morrison ect had?

of course i think the answer's yes...the state of today's music makes me sad, but there ARE good bands, you just need to search for them a bit, cos they're sure as hell not being played on MTV. As for bands that had an influence-not many Americans know of them, but The Libertines are a British band that had a huge influence on indie music. They're broken up now (tragically), but they're one of those bands that people say "they changed/saved my life" about. To me they're the most signifigant band of the last 20 years...Nirvana being a close second.

I personally think bands still have the same impact as the bands did from years ago. RHCP, Alice in chains (although the lead singer died) and a few other bands come to mind. They have shown they still have what it takes and can produce great music and adapt with the times.

Jim Morrison (the doors), the beatles and several others did have a significant impact and certainly influenced the world but I guess I'm saying that there's still bands nowadays (very few) that still have that influence towards people.
