Default surely someone has to be worse than me

Hey guyz, i've been looking at my navbar, well, navbars, lol, and I think it's kinda busy, so I was curious as to how 'busy' other peoples navbars up, post em up and show them off

please note that I have massive resolution, so it looks spaced out, but on a standard screen, it's not lol

S'nothing, I have 12 links on each navbar (when logged in anyway), only difference is my navbars sit top and bottom of the box rather than right on top of each other.

It doesn't seem to look too busy though, and frankly we need all the links so it's fine.

I did shorten some of the names (eg mark Forums Read became just 'Read') and put a description in the alt tag, this helps it look less cluttered.

to manage all the stuff in mine I added more dropdown menus, seems to do the trick. I would have a LOT of links otherwise. My site has like 4 dropdowns and about 5 regular links for important things like: usercp, newposts, home/forum, logout

I'm replying to your last statement. I find that implementing links in the nav bar has become the standard and people often overlook that these links can be placed elsewhere. I recently implemented the links and intergrated them into the logo without any titles showing untill someone hovers over the links. I find that this is a good alternative and eliminates clutter.

I'm not spamming (with regards to the link, I don't own the forum) Rollover Links just conveying across that there are good alternatives to eliminate that ever common clutter.

You are of course correct, and I've got to say that looks very good.

It's beyond my limited skills to do something quite that sophisticated though, so for now I've stuck with the double navbar. It's a bit cluttered but doesn't seem to cause TOO many problems.

I tried that. Maybe it's my site, but I found that as soon as something was in a drop down menu, nobody clicked on it.

I have the same issue with pagination. I have to have all my arcade games on the same page, if I try to paginate it nobody ever plays any of the games on page 2 etc.

Probably a psychological thing.

I totally agree with you that the result of implementing the dropdown method is a psychological thing for the vast majority of people. I know (speaking for myself) would rarely select any links from a dropdown menu which kinda defeats the purpose of having the links in the first place. I personally think accessablity is paramount and an element of eyecandy effects paves the way for members to click vital links which they ought to click to read the more benficial content that would normally go missed. For me, rollover effects and intergrating links into the logo is the best solution although I'm betting there is a better method out there.

I always take the links out of the navbar and place them on the top of the site.

I also try to keep the links as simple as possible. I have recived a lot of postive feedback on the ease of use and navigation of my site.

I agree. Main links or main link headers should be up-front while sub-links can fit into a drop down menu scheme. It makes the appearance cleaner.

I don't have a navbar!

I have navbuttons!

Err... click my site to see what I mean, I don't feel like screen capturing then busting out photoshop to show. X.x I am lazy right now.
