I noticed that the "description" field for the forums is limited. I'd like to have longer forum descriptions. Do I have to do that via phpMyAdmin? And if so, what should I change? The field type? It's currently set to "text". Can I specify a length attribute or will I have to change the field type? Will changing the field type mess up other things or change how my descriptions are currently being displayed (for example, I'm using HTML in some descriptions)?

Are you talking about the title or the description?

I guess the title. Change in phpMyAdmin the length of the 'description' & 'description_clean' columns of the forum table to 254.

The forum description - the short blurb that describes what the forum is about, not the title of the forum. Is 254 the maximum characters a "text" type field can display?

A column of the type VARCHAR is limited to 255 characters.

The description is a TEXT type column and can take up to 2^16 characters.
