Saving Plugin/Modification Settings

I'm writing a modification, and need to know what the best way to save settings would be. Should I use vBs setting/settinggroup database tables, or write my own settings table?

If I should use the vB setting table (which I would like to do, less modification to the database), what should I make my settinggroup and such?
