I'm curious how people handle teenagers registering on their site. Does anyone have special conditions setup for teens (say under 16) that limit their posting/reading capabilities?
I'm thinking of establishing a teen usergroup, but not entirely sure how to automatically move those with birthdates in the < 17 range into their own. I've added Andreas mod for the no registrations under 18, but am considering adding some forums for teens to give them a reason to use their real age. |

You could use the built in promotions system to promote teens into the noraml user group once they are 17+.
My forum is open to all, although I haven't had any youngins register yet. |

You can not use the promotions system, as it does not offer a condition for userage
![]() As the primary target audience of Planet-Liebe are teenagers, there are no restrictions at all. Though, our moderators have to be very observant to catch and remove unsuitable posts. |

We had a similar issue on my board recently. We have a forum called Fetish (I'll let you use your imagination about its contents) and a young lady registered and posted there. It caused quite the commotion (understandably so). I took that opportunity to restrict access to that forum to people over the age of 18 using the mod Andreas made. I think any forum that has discussions that are of an "adult" nature should use the same restrictions.

I think the whole userage thing doesn't work anyway - as long as you don't request a copy of their ID card....
I can signup everywhere and just enter 12/6/1923 as my date of birth.... On my forum we try to get all areas as clean as possible. Offensive stuff (if only for teens or in general) get's moved into the "MODs only" forum - away from from the public. We then have a special forum section that only members of a special group can even see. ATM people are moved (and picked) into this group by hand. |

Most teens are a pain in the @$$, especially the ones under 15...
They have terrible spelling, post useless threads and make even more useless posts. I wish I could restrict my forum to 15+ but such a restriction is not possible due to the nature of the internet... ![]() |

Teenagers that get banned are the worst. They won't go away. We usually have to report them to their ISP. Sometimes we can find their parents phone numbers and send them a PM threatening to call their parents. ^_^. That generally makes them stop. This is of course banning them several times and asking them to stop. |

Usually we donot allow people under 16 to register our boards. We only accept with referrals and referrals are also responsible for the people they referred.

All people get the same on my site.
Age is not a factor. General Posting The rules of this forum are largely based on RFC1855, a widely accepted internet standard for netiquette. We own this forum, we pay for this forum, and we are liable for its content so we get to make the rules. Generally, it's okay if it can pass "The Boss Rule": if you could show your boss your post without getting fired, it's okay. (see: Moderation) Post Legibly In the digital age, you would have thought that legibility would no longer be a problem. As RFC 1588 states, use mixed case and proper punctuation. Doing otherwise will make you sound like a toddler. Posting in "l33t sp33k" (replacing letters with numbers and/or special symbols) or "LeEt CaPs" (alternating case excessively) will make you look like a fool. Don't do it. Proper sentence usage is appreciated too. Illegal Subjects Subjects include, but are not limited to: Warez/pirating, hacking, drugs, pornography, and provoking racism. If we see you posting threads promoting any of these topics you will be banned. Respect Respect every forum member as you would a moderator. All forum posters are to be treated equally with respect. Repeatedly using vulgar language and calling somebody an idiot is not a good way of getting on a moderators good side. Furthermore, moderators treat everybody as equals. This forum is open to anybody, regardless the game. This site will not tolerate personal attack to anyone. This is a game related community that promotes competition, honor and fair play. Posts found that include slander on a personal level and not game related will be removed and the user warned of improper behavior. Second infraction will result in banishment to participate in this community. Youre a lousy player blaw blaw (no problem) Youre a lousy person blaw blaw (not allowed) Swearing Excessive swearing is a mark of fool. This isen't a locker room keep it clean. Lastly, no swearing in signatures and images. Images No pornographic, overly offensive, or inappropriate images are allowed. I believe I speak for a large number of our members when I say that I'd like to be able to read the Game Zone HQ forums while at university or at work. Again, common sense applies: if you could show your boss this image, it's okay. Furthermore, if you are going to have quite a number of large screenshots in a thread, it's generally a good idea to put a warning in the subject line. "(Warning - big pictures!)" is fine. Subject Lines Make your subject lines descriptive. Subject lines such as "Check this out!" or "This is so cool!" or "I can't believe this!" are not descriptive, and result in multiple postings on the same subject. Before posting, you might want to look through the current page of posts to see that someone has not already posted on the same subject. Moderation The following is our basic moderator guidelines and standards. These rules apply to moderators too. Any moderator who breaches these guidelines will lose their moderator privileges. There are no double-standards in our forum. i. Warnings (and successive courses of action) Warnings are given by mods to those who break the rules. All warnings are logged in our database. We are aware of those who have a record. The most common method of action towards offenders is this: I. When you break a rule for the first time, a moderator will contact you via Private Message or email to warn you. Whether you respond to the warning or not, we will assume that you are aware of the situation. II. If you continue to break a rule for the second time, a moderator may warn you again for the last time. Depending on the severity of the offense, you may be banned for the second offense without warning. III. After three offenses, you will be banned and your account deleted. If you post anything we regard as illegal you will be banned upon the second offense. If you have been banned, it was not without warning or reason. |
