Duplicate Link Checker

I run a pretty active forum where users like to post links to one news article or another they find on the web. Posts scroll so fast I generally wind up with anywhere from 2-5 topics on the same subject. I'd like to make up a small application where a user could type in a link and see if its been posted in another post. URLs are not currently search indexed, but I could probably write a new DB for URLs to go into.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried something like this out, or if you feel its just not possible.
