Right. A few of our users occasionally log in from the library or school. They don't check the box. But by having the box checked by default, you're forcing them to constantly UNcheck it. Chances are, they'll forget.
Once the box is checked, it stays checked, so unless you have a forum for cretins, checking the box by default really shouldn't be necessary. If people are having trouble with staying logged in, it's not that they aren't checking the box; rather, it's that they're having cookie issues.

No, I doubt it will. Their problem likely has to do with over-aggressive antivirus programs which are screwing with their cookies, so they're going to have to sign in again the next time they visit anyway, regardless if it's checked by default.
