Server speed and archiving posts

Hi,

Hope some of you guys on here can help. My forum is at Talk Angling UK - we seem to be suffering speed issues with the site hanging for 20 - 30 seconds when switching to a different thread or trying to post, it seems intermittant but is definately affecting the user experience as our numbers of page views have dropped with people leaving the site.

What should I do, can someone suggest a course of action to take as the hosting guys say there is plenty of resource left on my server, they say its nothing their end. Its on a Linux box - is there a way to archive older posts into a separate database to take the load off the current data?? Sorry if I sound a little bit niave but I'm not that technical.

All help appreciated.
