Help adding banner ad's at the bottom of Forumhome

Hi guys,

I'm using Version 3.0.8 (my testing site is on 3.5) but couldnt find a forum on here for 3.0.x that had questions in it but i assume the coding would be the same so i posted here (please move if it's an inappropriate forum)

I'm trying to add some banner links to the bottom of my forum just underneath the what's going on box, simple enough but i cant seem to get it to work the way i want. I'm a total PHP newbie so please be patient with me Just to explain my problem i want the banner ad's to be relevant to a custom profile field that determines what make of car the user drives so if they have selected Ford in their profile the ad's displayed will be links to ford tuning suppliers, or if they select say MG they will get MG links. This is probably fairly straightforward to do but is beating the hell outta me.
I'm assuming i'd need to add a table and use If, then to add the content of the table but still unsure how to do this in PHP.

Can anyone advise me on how to do this please, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
