There are lot of good Smilie-Sides out there.

i meant smilies that i can offer as the administrator of a board, not just ones that users can link to...

You can just save the smilies from the free-smilie-sides out there and upload them into youre forum...

how do you save animated gifs??

Right-click on them, and Save them to your computer, as you would any other image

i have tried that but i only get a freeze frame of the animated gif

...i am not getting the whole file

any other ideas ....

I expect you are geting the full file, provided a you save the as a .gif and don't change the file format, b you don't open it in paint or another program which doesn't support animation and c that you view it with an application that supports animation, eg IE.
