Shoutbox using iFrames, server killer?

Over 8000 members with 50-100 members online at most (during day peak hours)

I had shoutbox v 1.0.4 installed with iframes on index. Server admins told me that the specific shoutbox i was using coded terribly and its using 50% of the server resources. I had it for few months till they finally told me to takie it down or move out. I did a fresh install of the latest vBulletin, and currently only have 1 hack installed - VBChat (by the way is that script server friendly?)

My question is (since so many of my members loved the shoutbox and want it back) which shoutbox script is the most server friendly ?
