I've been considering rebuilding my site, LinkSwarm, in vBulletin.
Have a look at it and see what it's composed of. It's essentially links, forums, journals, and some smaller content types. Right now it's based on PHPNuke, which I've modified a lot over the years. Now, obviously VB is going to blow the doors off the forum stuff, which is very cool. I know there's a few journal-type mods available for VB. My main concern is the links. I'm not finding much out there to enable VB to do the type of link site I run now. There's a couple directory hacks which I could modify, but I'd much rather look for something robust and integrated with the admin cp. vBAdvanced Links Directory is about the best I can find, but I'm not eager to pay $35 just to have a look at the code and see if it suits my needs, and the demo sites don't do much to convince me either. Here's a great featurelist I found and cached a copy of; I'd gladly pay for any tool that did all of this. I'm new to this world so I'll appreciate any input you have on the subject, either on the links thing or the larger idea of converting from one site format to another. |

I used to have a site that was in phpnuke, and the actual forums were vb based, I then changed it all over to vb cmps, which is free, and you can do a lot of stuff with it.
I now have loads of pages, and menus and stuff and it all works fine www.bootleg.org.uk though you wont be able to see it till tomorrow or next day, as my server got humped with lots of users, and they need to upgrade some stuff, but after then it should be back online |

This forum doesn't seem to get a lot of traffic. If anyone has ideas of a better place to post this question, I'd really appreciate it. |

Hi Vasudeva,
Have a look at http://www.alternativenation.net/ We've got the The vbAdvanced Portal runnign with some seperate section, vBAGallery, vBaLinks, Journals, Arcade and a few other things. The journals are changing over to a different system this week but it'll still give you an idea. As for the links I've found it pretty good doesn't get used that much on our site at the moment but its got some decent features. So it might give you a better idea on how it looks and works. |
