For forums that are relatively big. Say something like 20,000 members or so. How many queries is too many queries? Like I have 28 loading on forumhome, is this a safe number or am I setting myself up for a certain death?

well, it's ok, it alwasy depends on what queries you have...
are the queries intese or not. also the ammount of members isn't so important, what counts is the ammount online at the same time, when you have really a lot online same time i won't go over 25..., as less as better ![]() try my optimize forumhome hack ![]() |

Well on average around 140 online and this was just judging by forumhome. I just didn't want to make sure I was setting myself up for a beating in the future if I installed a few more hacks.

well, if you have a good server you wouldn't get in trouble, but reducing the queries is always a good goal

I'd never install hacks on such a big board

I've reduced my forumhome to 19 queries, and I have quite a few hacks.
I'd be more wary of showthread.php to be honest, it's the most viewed file and the most server intensive... |

I have to slow mine a bit down, I think it's load is a bit much.

optimizing showthread.php is very hard, i've tried it several times but haven't had much succes...
at least not without to completly rewrite most of the file... |
