Hi everyone.
We recently migrated our forum from SMF 1.1.8 to vB (Impex on 4.2.3 and then upgraded to 5.2.5). Since we've returned online we've experienced serious problem with search engines crawl: we are literaly submerged of 404s from Google bots and almost the whole of these are returned by URLs with the old SMF path (sitename/topicname); being now the topic's paths updated to vB's synthax (sitename/forum/category/subforum/topicname), we suspect that these errors are caused by URLs linked in users' posts. Now, our forum is more than a million and a half posts, so it's almost impossible to edit the old URLs manually; however we definitely need to rewrite that URLs, then we were asking if someone here found himself in the same situation and how has solved the problem. Thanks in advance. |

Dragonbyte seo might be able to help you, if it's available for vb5. I believe they offer custom rewrite rules for pro members, maybe they could do something similar for switching from smf?

I see your reply only now, thanks for the suggestion, we've solved using a custom script. |
