I can't install it on my own machine so I checked the vB 5 demo site out the other day. It has been a while since I have been involved and now I have some time.

It has moved on I am glad to see, it took a while and I expect there are are still some things that need to fixed but I liked what I saw initially.

The only thing I came away with that bothered me was the floating bar aspect. It was a great feature but I wondered why it wasn't carried through on the site builder page.

It can be done with some creative CSS on custom styles. It messed with site-builder, so you would need to keep a default style for site development. I experimented with it, but had no feedback from my users which led me to believe nobody really cared. When I upgraded, I didn't re-implement it and there were no complaints or comments so I figured "why bother?".

Yup. Why bother?
Just an observation. Continuity lack. The mechanics are already in the software so why not take advantage?

My tendency lately is to just implement features based on user demand or request more so than what looks cool or is unique.
